CORBA - Nobody Left Behind Rides! Mondays @ 6:00

Postby ekko » Tue Apr 13, 2010 9:46 am

EDIT: The group ride now begins @ 6:00 PM!!!!

Weather permitting we are looking to kick off some CO-ED "Nobody Left Behind" mountain bike groups rides Mondays @ 6:00 PM with our first ride being next Monday 4/19. As soon as we get some more daylight we'll probably move the start time back to 6pm for those of us that have to work late (i.e. me).

I stress CO-ED because I've rode a lot of other places on the globe and our local riding scene not so great (big disclaimer: Matt's personal opinion!) with the mixture of the genders and mountain biking. It's a personal mission to at least try and influence some change.

These groups rides will be led by Randy or Matt and in situations where neither of us can make it we will find a shining replacement!

These rides are a great opportunity for the following:

    1. Riders that are new to mountain biking and would like to learn a bit more about the sport at a pace relative to their abilities
    2. Riders that have been mountain biking, but would like to work with some experienced riders to help grow their abilities
    3. Riders that are new to the area and want to meet some new regulars to ride with
    4. Experienced riders that want to come out and help others new to the sport grow and become better riders

At a bare minimum please come without an ego, :) but please bring a helmet, a bike that is trail ready, and water. If you have spare tools or tubes be sure to bring those too. We also would prefer no pets on this ride as the focus is on riding and skill improvement. Each week we'll focus on a different skill for the entire ride from the "Mastering Mountain Bike Skills / Lee McCormick & Brian Lopes" playbook. This includes: Weighting/un-weighting your bike, pedal stroke, proper braking technique, cornering technique, bunny hops, pedal hops, jumping, pumping terrain, etc.

Just in case any of last years regulars are wondering this IS the ride formerly known as the "no experience needed ride". Hope to see both new and familiar faces!

Trail ready would include having a real bike and not one of those sissy road bikes with the tiny little tires.

What GW said, plus it should be in good working order. It's pretty tough to learn any new skill if your gears skip and your brakes are dodgy. Also worth mentioning is that many department store "mountain" bikes actually have a sticker on them somewhere that says "not intended for off road use". Be that as it may, I've seen people riding them on the trail having fun so....

I am looking forward to partaking in this ride again. I have to wait until this semester is over due to a scheduling conflict. Count me in for this in a three or four weeks!

Good ride last night, kinda heavy on experienced riders but Raymond was a real trooper and says he'll be back next week!
One addition to the required equipment, water. Please come with some way to carry water during the ride.

Count me in after this semester as well, I'll probably just schedule to ride all day and then with you guys too. Need to get in all the riding possible this season. I should be there Monday May 10th, but if not then starting the 17th. Cannot wait!

There is a 100% chance of this ride being called off for mud tomorrow. See you all next week.

I would stay tune since there is a couple more systems brewing in Missouri and Iowa headed our way tonight and tomorrow morning.

IF we dodge the rain today the trails looks good for this evening. Please note that the ride is now 6pm and not 5:30, that is just too early for many people with jobs and we have plenty of sunlight.
